Submit a Contribution to ePIC 2012

Authors are invited to submit research papers, case studies, work in progress, position papers, workshops and posters. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by three members of the programme committee for originality, significance, clarity and quality. Accepted papers will be published in the ePIC 2012 proceedings under ISBN 978-2-9540144-1-8.

Themes

Authors are invited to address issues in relation to:

    • development of lifelong learner / professional / citizen identity;
    • healthcare education of professionals and citizens (professional- health- folio);
    • integrative learning and holistic development;
    • individual / community /organisational ePortfolios and identities development;
    • continuing professional development and sustainable employability;
    • assessment, recognition and accreditation of learning (formal, informal, lifelong and life-wide).

Key conference questions may include, (but are not limited to):

  • Should everybody (individuals, communities and organisations) have an ePortfolio?
  • How do individual and organisational ePortfolios (and identity) relate?
  • How do ePortfolios contribute to the identity construction process?
  • How do ePortfolios support the acquisition of 21st century skills?
  • How do ePortfolios support lifelong learning, orientation and employability?
  • How to develop the recognition and accreditation of prior Experience and learning (APEL) ?
  • How to create an ePortfolio ecosystem?
  • How do ePortfolios, Personal Learning Environments and Personal Working Environments relate?
  • How can we make effective an ‘business case’ to those funding eportfolio provision when resources are restricted?

  1. Initial Education —ePortfolio from kindergarten to further and higher education
  2. Employability, Organisational and Lifelong Learning —ePortfolio from employees to self-employed and entrepreneurs
  3. Healthcare Education and Practice —ePortfolio from patients to healthcare professionals (special track)
  4. Assessment, Accreditation and Recognition —knowledge, skills and attitudes
  5. ePortfolio and Identity Policies —ePortfolio implementation from a single institution to a whole country
  6. Technologies  —ePortfolio platforms, system architectures and standards
  7. Identity — ePortfolio, social networks, web 2.0 and identity construction

Presentation Formats

A variety of presentation formats is invited: research papers, case studies, work in progress, position papers, workshops and posters. Each submission must explicitly address at least one of the conference tracks / themes. During the sessions, presenters will have the opportunity to state their individual contribution to these issues as input for further debate and recommendations.

Submissions can have the following format:

  • Long paper, scientific paper: 8-10 pages
  • Short paper, work in progress, position paper: 4-5 pages
  • Workshop: description of a practical session involving participants' hands-on activities
  • Poster: presented in the exhibition/lunch/coffee area: A1 format

Abstract suggested headings:

  • Background / context
  • Objectives / what was the problem ?
  • Summary of results / how was it addressed
  • Conclusions / recommendations / what was learnt ?
Before preparing your abstract carefully study the instructions given below:
  1. Abstracts must be submitted using our conference management service.
  2. Abstracts should not contain charts, graphics, references, or credits.
  3. Abstracts will not be edited by the conference organiser. Before submitting your abstract, check carefully to make sure it contains no spelling or typographical errors.
  4. An untidy abstract will not be included in the programme.
  5. Authors must state which format they wish their presentation to be considered as.

Submission & Review

The submission and review process is divided into 2 steps: abstracts are reviewed to select presentations for the conference, and papers are reviewed to select the contents of the proceedings.

  • Contributions: all contributions start with the submission of a structured long abstract, i.e. between 500 to 700 words.
  • Abstracts review: all abstracts are reviewed to assess the quality and interest of a presentation. When accepted, authors are invited to submit a short/long paper and register as presenter / co-presenter.
  • Papers review: short and long papers are reviewed for publication in the conference proceedings.
  • Proceedings: in order to exploit the feedback gained during the conference, authors have the opportunity to upload the final version of their short/long paper after the conference.

NB 1: All abstracts are to be submitted using the conference management service. To submit an abstract, please create an account and use the 'abstract' field to paste the abstract. Please, do not upload abstracts in separate files;  only upload long/short papers, presentation files, posters and workshop handouts.

NB 2: All accepted abstracts and papers will be published in the proceedings. Presentation slots will be distributed equally among speakers and organisations represented.
