Sessions

When an abstract is accepted, authors are invited to make a presentation and submit a short/long paper. The presentation can take several forms: panel discussion, presentation or workshop. During the presentation, it is critical that presenters respect the timing to give time for discussion with other speakers and delegates.

Parallel sessions

Parallel sessions last 1h to 1h30. Presenters have 20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes discussion. The session Chair decides whether to have a discussion at the end of each presentation or to keep it for the end of the session.

Panel Discussion

Panel discussions last 1h to 1h30. Participants have 5 minutes introduction to present their position on the issue, then the floor is open to discussion among speakers and with the audience.

Timing
Session Duration Speakers Time per Speaker Discussion Time
Parallel session 1h 2 20 min 20 min
Parallel session 1h30 3 20 min 30 min
Panel Discussion 1h 3-4 5 min 40 min
Panel Discussion 1h30 4-6 5 min 60 min

Presentation tips

  • Prepare your session —check who the other presenters are and what they are going to address to adjust your presentation
  • Check the time, day and location of your presentation —refer to the programme given the day of the conference, not the one printed in your home/office
  • Be ready to speak within the time limit.
  • Focus on the issue, outcomes, problems, facts, etc. —do not waste the first half of your presentation with the introduction...
  • Speak to the audience — do not read your short/long paper, present it! Use the slides as a script supporting your presentation.
  • Stick to the timing —think of the other speakers and delegates that would like to engage in a discussion.
  • Be legible  —text on slides should be legible to the audience.
  • Be sure to check that your presentation runs on the AV equipment before your session begins.
