About ePIC 2012
ePIC 2012, the 10th international ePortfolio and Identity Conference will take place at the IET, Savoy Place, London UK, 9-10-11 July 2012. It is organised by the Internet of Subjects Forum (IOSF).

Over 9 years more than 2,000 delegates from 47 countries, have contributed to the reflection on ePortfolio and identity. Many delegates were from an education and training background, there was also a large representation from public authorities. eLearning suppliers, large organisations, SMEs associations and networks. |
Since 2003, international ePortfolio conferences organised by EIfEL have established a solid track record as a leading forum for connecting practitioners, researchers, technologists and policy makers in exploring ePortfolio and Identity practices and technologies. It is appreciated for its capacity to explore current issues while leading the path towards possible futures.
In 2003, during the very first international ePortfolio conference, participants were invited to work towards an ambitious goal: "by 2010 every citizen will have an ePortfolio", ePortfolios being one of the means to construct one's digital identity. In 2010, hundred of millions have chosen to establish some kind of digital identity exploiting social networks rather than ePortfolio platforms. The fact that most ePortfolio providers have been left out of the social network / identity revolution says probably as much about the current state of formal education (c.f. recent PISA results), its capacity to embrace innovative technology and practice, as about the ability of educational technologists to fully exploit the power of technology beyond institutional boundaries — did not Facebook start as a service to students, by students?
in 2010, the 8th International ePortfolio Conference was co-hosted with the Internet of Subjects (IoS) forum, to explore the transformative power of an identity centric Internet on learning, working and doing business. Although digital identity issues were addressed since the very first International ePortfolio Conference, it became clear during this last event that the future of ePortfolios and Identities is deeply intertwined, making it a priority to connect the world of education and ePortfolio with the world of business and identity as well as that of social networking.
This is why, for its 9th edition, we decided to rechristen the International ePortfolio Conference as ePIC, which stands for ePortfolio and Identity Conference. 2012 will be the second of the name and the 10th in a series of successful international events.
